Racism is a public health issue in America, now at 202, 728 deaths, from #CoronaVirus, majority are Blacks and Latinos.
LA Times reported that 61% of new cases came from ages 18 to 49yo age group. When I drove from Chinatown to home on Sunset Blvd, many young folks were eating together, no masks, but at least outdoors. Still, with so much risks being taken. The next highest number of deaths, 140,000 come from Brazil and India, with 91, 149 deaths.
RBG, died on Rosh Hashanah, Jewish New Year. To the Jews, it means she is a TZADDIK, a person of great righteousness. She has written 483 opinions/dissents to topple the wall of gender inequality per Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr. She devoted > 40 years of her life in appeals and Supreme Court.
Yesterday was the feast of St. Padre Pio. “Padre Pio, was a humble Capuchin priest who lived the last 50 years of his life in San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy, at Our Lady of Grace Friary. He was blessed by God in many wonderful and mysterious ways; The most dramatic was the stigmata and he bore these wounds of Christ for fifty years.
Among his other gifts were perfume, bilocation, prophecy, conversion, reading of souls, and miraculous cures. People are still being cured through his intercession in ways that cannot be explained by medicine or science. More important, if less spectacular, are the spiritual healings that take place in all parts of the world. Saint Pio is a powerful intercessor.” Source: Padre Pio Foundation.
It was also the birthday of my youngest, CLD, an environmental advocate. On his birthday, Governor Gavin Newsom announced by 2035, only electric cars will be sold and all gas vehicles will be phased out to reduce carbon emissions. What a convergence gift to be blessed with on his birthday!
500 years without love, is a novel by Alex Lacson, a best selling author in the Philippines. I am now on Chapter 5, where he questions if the Philippines has really become a Christian country when 100 elite families, out of 110 million population, a mere .00009% continue to wantonly accumulate wealth, without regard to the quality of life of the marginalized?
The Philippines is a country needing love for 40% of its population, who are poor and cannot feed their families, especially during this pandemic.
It is akin to #blacklivesmatter wherein Blacks feel their unrequited love for America. So unloved that they are wantonly tortured, slain and murdered at the hands of police officers, without any threat to these officers’ lives, except in their “created biased imaginations.”
Last is Mark Bryan’s art of Trump’s face pockmarked by all the skeletons of folks who died from Coronavirus pandemic under Trump’s chaotic, incompetent and woefully inadequate leadership. Time to get him out of office, either by 25th amendment of incapacity or resignation.
Lastly, I am most grateful for Alvin Cailan’s cheeseburger and fries and LASA’s sinigang chicken wings. Two chefs meals grace my table, as my fall inspired vegetable and fruits. #pomegranate and #persimmons from our backyard with store bought #rambutan#mango#cucumbers and #guava. Thank you Lord.
