The first photo is of the Asian American educators who ate dinner with me tonight. Fave Dave, a water quality scientist, told us stories about LA’s water supply, plumbing, and even school names and how they came about in Los Angeles.

Interesting storytellers around the table!

The topics we covered include mentoring, administration of schools, USC’s Social Work Dept., LA City’s council, LA’s biggest issue of homelessness and how it got there, exercise, travel, lead-free municipal water systems, and volunteer work in middle schools. What an enjoyable roundtable!

An extra hour made the difference, and what a surprise to get a visit from my lovely daughter and granddaughter, bringing us what they baked.

I am just happy to be cooking for friends again and even glad that Glen suggested we get together. The last time Glen saw my daughter was when she was 5yo, and now she has her 6yo daughter.

Cultures represented in our dishes: American, Japanese, Filipino, and South Korean.

We were so fortunate that Chiae cooked the meat for us at the table, plus her homemade kimchi – what a treat!

Be careful what you wish for – and I got both – galbi at the table, kimchi, and more.

More treats as Carol made calamansi bars, calamansi crinkles, and apple galette that I was pining for.

I cooked #pancitbihonguisado using #leeks#greenonions#redonions#garlic#porkchops#chinesesausage#shrimps#cabbage#cilantro. This will be paired with #porkshoulderbutt#adobo#nosugaradded#nofruitsadded#classicadoborecipe; #lumpiangshanghai #multiberriessalad, and the rest will be surprised dishes from our guests: hardworking teachers, water quality scientists, and decades-long professors of #asianamericanstudies and #filipinoamericanStudies.

It was a very beautiful evening of camaraderie.
