Catch this extraordinary exhibit of #hayaomiyazaki at the @academymuseum. It will be here till March 2022. It is an entire fourth floor dedicated to his life philosophy, creative process, development of characters, plot, his business partner, the films that emanated from his drawings, and really, it is done well, quite in-depth, and not superficially. Today is my second visit.
There’s Fanny’s diner with a selection of decent dining entrees plus desserts. Some of his philosophical beliefs:
“To be able to fly through the air means to be liberated from the ground, but liberation can also create insecurity and loneliness.”
“There can never be a happy ending in the battle between humanity and ferocious gods. Yet, even amidst hatred and carnage, life is still worth living. It is possible for wonderful encounters and beautiful things to exist.”
Hayao Miyazaki believed in uncompromising creativity, that creativity comes first before efficiency. He controlled the artistic process by having all team members located in one site, creating collaboratively with one another. #academymuseum
