Everyone is born with a rainbow of talents. However, as immigrants, we are often faced with challenges – the need to assimilate and the ardent desire to make it in our adoptive country, no matter the cost.

Prosy Abarquez-Delacruz is exactly what she said – a rainbow of talents, and a Pinoy of California.

Prosy’s love for nature and the arts has already brought her to a lot of places not only in the United States, but also in Europe, Latin America, and Asia. As she travels, she gets to appreciate the beauty of these places but even more so, she picks up gems of stories including those of Filipino artists. Her flare for writing is her way of storytelling.

She has written more than 700 essays, and 33 of which made it to her book “Even the Rainbow Has a Body”. It is a collection of Prosy’s essays about Filipino-Americans who are in various kinds of arts. She calls this endeavor her lifeline as it pushed her to live her life to the fullest, instead of being engulfed by sorrow from the demise of her mother and sister in 2015. With the unwavering support of her family and friends, the book was published in 2016.

Prior to publishing her book, Prosy had been writing for more than 10 years for the Asian Journal. She had her weekly column called “Rhizomes” and she wrote features as well, the latest being her pilgrimages to the Holy Land and other religious sites. She also made contributions to Balikbayan Magazine where she highlighted Filipino arts and culture.

Prosy has always been in tune with current events and how they affect her community. She is not a mere spectator, though. She is proactive and would always think of ways on how to better the situation or at the very least give everybody something good to hope for – like seeing a rainbow after the rain. So, with the recent outbreak of the coronavirus disease that has been gravely affecting the entire world, Prosy has started writing her online journal. She has launched her website www.lotusrainer.com with her blogposts that aim to uplift everyone’s spirit with a recount of her day’s activities or her insights about the latest happenings in and out of California.
