My Book
Even The Rainbow Has A Body: Distinct Artistic Legacies is an anthology of stories written by Prosy Delacruz about artists of varying ages who excel in different fields: entertainment theater and film, photography, music, the culinary arts, poetry and literature, and art and design. Prosy drew inspiration from the late NVM Gonzalez, who coined the title of this wonderful book.
Even The Rainbow Has A Body: Distinct Artistic Legacies is a vibrant collection of semi-biographical stories written from Prosy’s perspective and rooted in her deep appreciation for the arts. Here you’ll find an interesting mix: a cultural visionary, a Filipino power couple in Hollywood, a creative alchemist, an activist filmmaker who “nurtured the careers of Asian American directors, a Filipina actor/activist who upheld equality among actors in the entertainment industry, a philanthropic music prodigy, a youthful poet laureate and a widow who found new purpose in life by “reinventing herself,” to name a few.
“Prosy Abarquez-Delacruz delightfully and astutely chronicles the life paths of some of the most impactful personalities in the Filipino-American community. What has motivated these people to succeed (especially in non-traditional areas) is nothing less than inspiring and motivating. Prosy’s crisp writing style shines a clear light upon these wonderful stories and makes each of them a unique learning experience.”
California Commissioner Fritz Friedman
“Even the Rainbow Has A Body: Distinct Artistic Legacies celebrates the Filipino-American artists in the Diaspora. Prosy Abarquez-Delacruz’s collection of vignettes of playwrights, musicians, photographers, writers and artists give testimony to the creative spirit of the Filipino, wherever they may be. Their stories remind us that artistry is not only about mastering the medium at hand, but is also made meaningful by acts of charity or advocacy. Prosy has inscribed a cultural legacy that future artists might learn from — with thoughtfulness and skill.”
Michael Gonzalez, Director NVM/Narita Gonzalez Writers’ Workshop
“A fascinating read – this rich collection of interviews in one book – it’s as though I’ve been given the opportunity to have an intimate conversation over dinner with each of these engaging talents. Prosy’s carefully crafted reflections and quotes capture the excitement. It felt as though this reader was ‘listening’ to how these men and women have accomplished or perfected their craft.”
Professor Carol Ojeda-Kimbrough
“A timeless and timely book about artists and the creative process — ‘Even The Rainbow Has A Body:’ Distinct Artistic Legacies gives living energy to the adage that no dream is impossible to realize. Prosy Delacruz voices our collective curiosity, our search for truth and our wonder at the meaning of life. She connects soul-to-soul with these creators, who stand out in their respective fields because they found their own humanity. This is a must-read for young and old, serving as the final nudge towards that courageous leap to fulfillment.”
